The Straight And Narrow

It is very hard to stay on the straight and narrow. The mind and the body is like a car that desperately needs a front end alignment. We always want to drift to the left our to the right. Often times I get the opportunity to speak with our youth in our community, and I always give them an example of a major one way highway with multiple exits and on ramps that run right through a heavily wooded jungle. The jungle consist of many things lurking to devour our lives. There is danger on both sides of us. If we drift left or right, we find ourselves off the path. The more we drift the further away we find ourselves from what we should be doing. The dangerous thing about drifting is that the direction of our lives changes so slowly that we may not recognize how far we are  from the path. We know that we need to re-direct but we think that we haven’t deviated that much. The deceiving aspect of distance is this. If we are on a straight line to hit our target in life and we drift one tenth of a center-meter to the left or the right, that change will be hardly noticeable. But if there is not a re-adjustment, and significant time passes, that slight drift will result in us being miles off course. We will look up and wonder to ourselves, ‘how did I get so far off my course?’
